著者について About the Author Toshihiko Izutsu(1914-93), a member of the Japan Academy and professor emeritus at Keio University in Tokyo, was a distinguished scholar of Oriental philosophy and of Islamic thought. He was a member of the Institut International de Philosophie(Paris)and a professor at McGill University in Canada and at the Imperial Iranian Academy of Philosophy in Tehran. He also lectured at the Eranos Conference for fifteen years(1967-82). In his writing Izutsu tackled the great range of Oriental philosophy from Jewish, Islamic, and Indian philosophies to Taoism and Japanese Buddhism. Among his English works are Language and Magic, Sufism and Taoism, Ethico-Religious Concepts in the Qur'?n, and Toward a Philosophy of Zen Buddhism. His books in Japanese include 神秘哲学(Mystical Aspect of Greek Philosophy), イスラーム哲学の原象(A Fountainhead of Islamic Philosophy), 意識と本質(Consciousness and Essence), and a translation of the Qur'?n. 内容紹介 1964年に発表された井筒俊彦の代表的英文著作。イスラームの聖典『コーラン』に示されている、創造主である神と被造物たる人との関係を分析するコーラン論。倫理的な関係として、慈愛の神、怒りの神という神の持つ二面とそれに対処してゆく人のあるべきありようが述べられる。井筒の著作を特徴づける、確固たる意味論的方法およびオリジナルなテクスト読みが顕著な一冊。
