Product Description No comedy team ever dominated '50s live TV quite like Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Even in an era that saw the likes of Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, and Steve Allen taking comedy to new heights on the new medium of television, no one came close to the hysterical interplay between easygoing Dean and his silly stooge, Jerry. In this fabulous five-disc set, you'll see Martin & Lewis at their brilliant best - on the legendary "Colgate Comedy Hour." And it's not just Dean and Jerry! You'll love watching them fool around with such guest stars as Burt Lancaster, Eddie Cantor, Marilyn Maxwell, Tony Martin, and Joe Louis. No fan of classic comedy should be without THE DEAN MARTIN & JERRY LEWIS COLLECTION VOLUME 2: WHEN TV WAS FUNNY. Disc One The first show, originally broadcast in September of 1950, has Dean and Jerry alongside gorgeous Marilyn Maxwell ("The Lemon Drop Kid") and comedian Leonard Barr. Sketches include a backstage bit with Martin and Lewis goofing around in their dressing room, and another with Jerry playing a little kid who goes to the movies with grown-up Dean. The second show, from October of the same year, features the actual mayors of Steubenville, Ohio - where Dino was born, and Newark, New Jersey - birthplace of Jerry Lewis. Sketches include a hilarious bit set in a gymnasium with Jerry getting the craziest workout ever, and another with Martin and Lewis as a couple of tough hoods. Disc Two First off is a show from November of 1950, with eccentric dancer and comedian Leonard Barr. Also appearing is Sammy Petrillo ("Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla"), who made a career out of imitating - Jerry Lewis! Sketches include Dean as a dance instructor and Jerry as his hapless student, and another with Dean as a distracted babysitter and Jerry as - the baby! Next up is an episode from May of 1951 featuring legendary entertainer Eddie Cantor, who also hosted some of the "Colgate Comedy Hours." Sketches include a hospital bit with Dino as a doctor and Jerry as his stubborn patient, and one that revolves around a fancy dinner party with Dean and Jerry making an absolute mess of things. Disc Three The first show, originally telecast in June of 1951, features cameo appearances by another "Martin & Lewis" - singer Tony Martin and heavyweight champ Joe Louis! Sketches include one set in a gentlemen's club in which Jerry disturbs the peace of its members, and another with Dean and Jerry as little kids playing - and fighting - on the stoop. Next is an episode from March of 1952, features an appearance by Danny Arnold, who was a comedy writer and parttime actor who would later create the popular "Barney Miller" TV show in the '70s and Norman Lear, who would go on to create "All in the Family." Sketches include one with Dean as a fashion photographer and Jerry as an inept window-washer, and another with Dean as a baseball manager and Jerry as a very nearsighted ballplayer. Disc Four First up is a show originally broadcast in May of 1953 featuring three immortal character actors: Benny Rubin ("The Jack Benny Show"), Frank Nelson ("I Love Lucy"), and Sheldon Leonard ("It's a Wonderful Life"). Sketches include one with Dean and Jerry taking out insurance policies on each other, and another where they wreak havoc in a harem. The second show, from October of 1953, guest stars the great Burt Lancaster, in a rare comic performance alongside Dean and Jerry that spoofs Lancaster's role as an unbalanced alcoholic in the then-current drama, "Come Back, Little Sheba." Disc Five The first show, from January of 1954, showcases one of Hollywood's great comic actors, Franklin Pangborn, who was a frequent foil of the immortal W.C. Fields and a favorite member of director Preston Sturges' repertory company. Sketches include another hilarious backstage bit set in Dean and Jerry's dressing room, plus a department store skit with Martin and Lewis destroying each and every department. Next up is a show from February of 19
